About K9 Mentor

Brian’s Background in Dog Training and Canine Behaviour

Lifelong Commitment to Dogs

Brian has been surrounded by dogs from an early age. From his parents’ miniature poodle to his sister’s retired breeding German shepherd, he developed a lasting intuitive passion for all things dog. It was inevitable he’d one day become a dog trainer! His dream was always a Doberman, which he realised when he welcomed his first puppy, Kiai.

Professional Journey in Canine Behaviour

Brian’s path into dog training began with Jazz, a rescue German shepherd who had experienced early trauma. Supporting Jazz through her behavioural challenges inspired him to learn more, exploring effective training methods, laying the foundation for his future work with dogs.

Experience with Rescue Dogs and Dobermans

Over the following 20 years, Brian rescued several Dobermans and volunteered with a London‑based Doberman rescue charity. This provided experience in:

* Rescue dog rehabilitation
* Behavioural modification for trauma recovery
* Breed‑specific training for guarding dogs

Expanding Expertise: Working Spaniels

In recent years, Brian has focused on working spaniels. With Gorgi, his springer spaniel, he developed a passion for training dogs in teamwork and skill development. His commitment has led to notable achievements, including:

* Certificates of Merit
* Novice Handler Award
* First place in a Novice AV Spaniel Working Test
* Success at Open Standard competitions

Current Dogs

Brian currently shares his home with two working springer spaniels raised from puppies,a rehomed cocker spaniel and a Malinois gifted to him by wolf behaviourist Shaun Ellis.
